Earth in Mind Design

The Permaculture Principles chart is a simple way to visualize how a Permaculture works.  At the top and the center is the care for the Earth, its people and the resulting fair share which occurs when a life is lived in balance with its environment.  The circle offers choices and reminders to pay attention to what happens naturally around us and to make changes that will result in the optimum outcome of " no waste".
Questions or Comments?
The number of people that are choosing to live a  simpler life in harmony with the earth and surrounding elements grows daily.
A permaculture is exactly what it sounds like; a permanent culture passed from one generation to the next, respecting the Earth and choosing to live within its' natural rhythms and cycles.
Its not necessary to have a large piece of property to live the Permaculture life. When I consult with people who are interested in living a permaculture lifestyle I always recommend that they first watch and log everything that happens around them for one year.  When it rains, where does the water pool up?, where is the most runoff?  What grows wild in each season?  What areas of the property gets sun each day and for how long. What species of animals is natural to the area?  Also, knowing what used to grow naturally on the property but was eradicated is important.  Take photos, notes, and do research.  Make a conscious effort to reduce dependency on outside energy and you're on your way.

Permaculture is a philosophy of working with rather than against nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labor; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any one as a single product system.     Bill Mollison
